About Us
Dulse in Down is situated in the beautiful area of Strangford Lough, Co Down. We harvest seaweeds from the clean cold and cool coastal waters of the Irish coastline. Strangford Lough has one of the fastest ocean currents in Ireland and it is full of nature too - A pod of orcas can be seen in the photo in Strangford Lough.
Fresh picked dulse all year round. In County Down, Dulse is popular and is used by nearly everyone, from food to spices. This Dulse is dried naturally and has a great tasting flavour.
Dulse can be used as a healthy alternative. Dulse has lots of vitamins and minerals compared to other vegetables. Dulse has a high source of protein, and can also be pan fried quickly for more taste. It can be used with steak instead of salt or even to add a bit of flavour to any of your foods.
At Dulse In Down we spend a lot of our time out on the waters searching in coves and inlets sourcing the highest quality seaweeds from sustainable areas to supply our customers.
We take great care in the hand harvesting of these delicate sea plants, once cut the plants are then taken to our dryroom or in sunlight, layed out on racks and dried at temperatures below 38c ensuring no valuable nutrients are lost during the drying process.
The manual harvesting of wild seaweeds has a long history in coastal communities dating back some 1500 years, where they have been collected for food, medicine, animal feed and soil improver.
Our aim is to deliver the highest quality seaweeds from harvesting, drying and packaging to ensure all trace elements and nutrients enclosed remain and have a healthy benefit to our daily diet.
